Field Engineer-PA
Independence Excavating, a leading excavating / sitework construction contractor, seeks to fill the position of a Field Engineer. This positions primary responsibility is to assist the Foreman and Superintendent to perform the following duties on projects in Western Pennsylvania with a focus on the Pittsburgh Region. Some travel may be required. Duties include managing crews and subs, scheduling, materials and profitability while maintaining a strong company reputation.
Specific responsibilities include:
-Read, understand and interpret drawings and specifications.
-Review and understand detailed list of Subcontracts and Purchase Orders along with contacts with Project Manager prior to the start of the job.
-Coordinate construction activities with local officials (engineering, service dept, fire, police, zoning, etc.) to keep Independence in good standing with the local government and residents.
-Communicate with Support Manager for all small tool requirements as timely and efficiently as possible. Do not order/purchase tools without consulting support manager.
-Coordinate subcontractors and material deliveries. Release all pre-purchased materials. Review all shipping inventory before signing packing slip.
-Maintain all trucking procedures.
-Timely and complete submission of time, receipts, and extra work forms.
-Work with and manage crews or individual items of work
-Utilize all company resources to their most efficient, practical use. Notify Dispatcher when equipment/resources are available. Consider Independence Excavating resources from a ‘company’ not just project perspective.
-Work with Equipment Manager to communicate the most effective equipment applications, maintenance schedules and procedures.
-Perform all necessary paperwork
-Keep field offices organized and efficient
-Audit and maintain current / updated project documents
-Aid in delivering as-built documents to the owner at closeout
-Aid in quality control
-Responsible for general and specific safety practices, following company safety manual procedures, and cooperating with our safety representative in a positive pro-active manner.
-Maintain positive company image in appearance, conduct, and communication.
-Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Requirement
-1-2 years previous related experience is required.
-Must have strong organizational skills in order to handle the variety of tasks assigned.
-Must develop positive working relationships with owners and project engineers as well as local government offices.
-Must be able to effectively communicate verbally with employees, external vendors, owners and general contractors.
-Must be able to have detailed involvement with multiple projects
-Must be able to work as a team member, and possess a “whatever it takes” attitude
-Must communicate bigger issues to IX upper management in a timely manner.
-Must be competent to performing complete and accurate project take offs
-Strong project computer systems experience required
-Must attend scheduled training seminars.
-Must train subordinates when necessary.
-Basic understanding of project metrics
-Subcontractor/supplier costs must be monitored.
-Must be able to effectively communicate verbally with employees, external vendors, owners and general contractors.

· It is a Field Engineers responsibility to maintain equipment and tools issued.

Working Conditions
· Position functions in the field (100%), in all types of weather conditions.
· Field Engineers are expected to work all necessary overtime. Salaried Field Engineers are based on 50/Hrs. per week average.
