Site & Utility Foreman-Mid-Atl
Independence Excavating, a leading area civil construction company, seeks to fill the position of a Site & Utility Foreman. Position handles all field related activities including managing crews and subs, scheduling, materials, equipment and profitability while maintaining a strong company reputation. Specific responsibilities include:
- Assist Project Manager in preparing detailed schedule and maintaining schedule throughout the project.
- Ability to set up crews including grades from engineer layout, set up laser and installation of structures. Keeping records of all work in field book.
- Prepare site safety, security, and maintenance of traffic and storm water pollution plans.
- Prepare work sequence with detailed plan of attack utilizing work crews as efficiently as possible prior to mobilization.
- Read, understand and interpret drawings and specifications.
- Review and understand detailed list of Subcontracts and Purchase Orders along with contacts with Project Manager prior to the start of the job.
- Coordinate construction activities with local officials (engineering, service dept, fire, police, zoning, etc.) to keep Independence in good standing with the local government and residents.
- Utilize all company resources to their most efficient, practical use. Notify Dispatcher when equipment/resources are available. Consider Independence Excavating resources from a ‘company’ not just project perspective.
- Resolve conflicts or disputes between owners, engineers and contractors.
- Monitor production, resource utilization and overall job cost vs. estimated cost to maintain profit margin on projects.
- All project activities should be approached from an economic perspective and justified by being able to be illustrated by the cost versus production analysis.
- Perform project close-out activities such as punch list coordination, furnishing as-built drawings, providing O & M manuals and compiling final estimate / retainer billing.
- Responsible for general and specific safety practices, following company safety manual procedures, and cooperating with our safety representative in a positive pro-active manner.
- Requirements include:
- 5+ years previous utility installation management experience.
- High school diploma with additional schooling (AS or BS degree) or equivalent experience preferred; computer/site technology skills a plus.
- Must be able to effectively communicate verbally with employees, external vendors, owners and general contractors.
- Must be able to discuss job plans effectively with local enforcement agencies.
- Must have strong organizational skills in order to handle the variety of tasks assigned.
- Must develop positive working relationships with owners and project engineers as well as local government offices.
