Prospect & Huron Buildings Demolition

Independence Excavating’s demolition crews were awarded the contract to demolish the former Ameritrust Complex in order to make way for a new Cuyahoga County Headquarters building. Known as the Prospect and Huron, or “P & H” buildings, Independence Excavating was proud to team with its sister company, Precision Environmental, and the project Owner, Geis Companies, to complete yet another high profile, turn-key demolition and abatement project in downtown Cleveland.

Precision completed the abatement work, and the new construction began immediately following the demolition completion date. This project had a very tight schedule on an even tighter footprint. The five and six-story joint building complex was approximately 185,000 SF and produced approximately 18,000 CY of debris that was required to be hauled off site. All debris was disposed in a LEED certified landfill to maintain the highest possible recycling percentage as a green initiative effort that continued throughout the new construction. In addition to the primary demolition, we worked with Precision and Geis in order to complete the required mass backfill, and some additional shoring in preparation for the new building's foundation installation work.

“We worked with Independence Excavating on the Charter Steel new steel mill project in Cuyahoga Heights, Ohio for over a year. They were flexible with our changes, provided timely and highly competitive pricing, met our multiple schedule requirements and exceeded our contractor expectations. Bottom line is whether we would use them again on demolition, site work and concrete work. The answer is YES, without a doubt.”
