The Cleveland Museum of Art — Phase II

Independence Excavating, Inc. was awarded the final phase of construction as part of the $300,000,000 expansion project at The Cleveland Museum of Art. We have completed two prior phases consisting of demolition, sheeting and shoring, dewatering, mass excavation and backfill, utility installation, and site restoration over the last eight years. Our current project includes excavation and the installation of concrete foundations, walls, and slabs associated with the new atrium and west addition. The vertical portion of concrete includes columns, one-sided walls, retaining walls, and shear walls. The concrete slab portion of work included structural concrete decks with integral beams, slab on grade and slab on metal deck with high tolerance topping slabs. The Cleveland Museum of Art expansion project has given our company a chance to show our versatility with great success.

The Results

The museum is slated to open the new addition in 2012.
