Ford Cleveland Casting Plant: A Collaborative Project

The environmental decommissioning and demolition of the Ford Cleveland Casting Plant (CCP) has commenced. This mammoth facility is nearly 1.4 million square feet and was constructed in the early 1950s. Prior to the plant being shuttered earlier this year, the facility manufactured steel blocks for automotive engines and other parts. The project is being lead by the General Contractor, Rudolph Libbe, and Ford Motor Company. Independence Excavating (IX) has joined forces with Precision Environmental Co., EnviroServe, C&K Industrial Services and several other local subcontractors to perform the necessary regulated materials abatement, cleaning and razing of the CCP. Given the nature of the industrial processes and the age of the facility, the abatement and cleaning of the facility is no small task and has required the commitment of over 65 skilled tradesmen to ensure we meet the timing and specification requirements for the project.

In addition, IX is working closely with K&K Recycling (K&K) to process and recycle the nonferrous and ferrous metal generated as a result of the structural razing. K&K is lending both their expertise and marketplace connections to ensure material is appropriately processed, sized and transported in a timely manner to the recycling facility.

The work is anticipated to be ongoing through the early part of 2012. IX is looking forward to continuing to work collectively with the project team to provide the marketplace the highest quality product possible in the safest and most efficient manner.
