Foreman-PA

Independence Excavating, a leading excavating / sitework construction contractor, seeks to fill the position of a Foreman.  Travel is required. Position assists Superintendent in handling all field related activities including managing crews and subs, scheduling, materials and profitability while maintaining a strong company reputation.

Specific responsibilities include:

- Prepare site safety, security, and maintenance of traffic and storm water pollution plans. Responsible for general and specific safety practices, following company safety manual procedures, and cooperating with our safety representative in a positive pro-active manner.

- Read, understand and interpret drawings and specifications.

-  Review and understand detailed list of Subcontracts and Purchase Orders along with contacts with Project Manager prior to the start of the job.

-  Prepare work sequence with detailed plan of attack utilizing work crews as efficiently as possible prior to mobilization.

-  Assist Project Manager in preparing detailed schedule and maintaining schedule throughout the project; understand connection between schedule, efficiency, and profitability.


-Monitor production, resource utilization and overall job cost vs. estimated cost to maintain profit margin on projects.

-  All project activities should be approached from an economic perspective and justified by being able to be illustrated by the cost versus production analysis.

-  Utilize all company resources to their most efficient, practical use.  Notify Dispatcher when equipment/resources are available.  Consider Company resources from a ‘company’ not just project perspective.

-  Work with Equipment Manager to communicate the most effective equipment applications, maintenance schedules and procedures.

-  Resolve conflicts or disputes between owners, engineers and contractors.

-  Perform project close-out activities such as punch list coordination, furnishing as-built drawings, providing O & M manuals and compiling final estimate / retainer billing.

-  Coordinate construction activities with local officials (engineering, service dept, fire, police, zoning, etc.) to keep Company in good standing with the local government and residents.

-  Assist estimating department with pre-bid planning, productions, and field experience related to upcoming projects as requested

-  Capability of looking at and understanding the “big picture.”

 

Knowledge / Skill Requirements include:

-  2 – 8 years previous commercial construction experience

-  High school diploma with a degree in either Civil Engineering or Construction Management is preferred.

-  Must be able to effectively communicate verbally with employees, external vendors, owners and general contractors.

-  Must have strong organizational skills in order to handle the variety of tasks assigned.

-  Must develop positive working relationships with owners and project engineers.

-  Strong commitment to teamwork both on and off site.

-  Personal attributes also include a strong sense of character, great work drive, and possess a positive, “make it happen” type mentality.
