CCF/CWRU Health Education Campus

The project consisted of the construction of a new 476,000 sf building located on the Cleveland Clinic’s main campus. The building will house a joint venture medical school between The Cleveland Clinic and Case Western Reserve University. Independence Excavating’s scope included demolition of vacated properties located on East 97th St. between Chester Ave and Euclid Avenue complete with removal and capping of all existing utilities. Surface demolition of 480,000 sf of existing parking lots. Installation, including tap of new domestic water and fire protection services, and associated vaults to the facility.  Installation of 352,308 gallon storm detention system. Installation of site sanitary and storm piping, manholes and catch basins. Installation of 6 new fire hydrants within the Cleveland Water Department Right-of-Ways and relocation of an additional 5 existing hydrants.   Excavation for basement, footer and retaining wall installation. Due to high water table, basement excavation included dewatering services to allow construction to proceed on schedule. Installation of 30’-0” deep lift station requiring local dewatering, beam, and lagging shoring system as well as controls for interface to building management system.

Duct bank excavation and backfill for electrical and technology services to the building.  Excavation and backfill services for 1,600’ of interior underground air ducts 6’-0” below finish floor. Excavation and backfill services for extensive interior electrical duct banks throughout the first floor.
