Cleveland Food Bank Distribution Center

With a donation of 18 acres of land on Coit Road in Cleveland from the DiGeronimo family, The Greater Cleveland Food Bank was positioned to construct a new distribution center to house all intake, distribution, and production activities to better serve the community.

Under the direction of Construction Manager, Independence Construction, our scope included site demolition, mass earthwork, wet utilities, and site erosion and sediment controls. Through diligent planning, coordination, and collaborative efforts, Independence Excavating was also awarded the design-build retaining walls for the site.

We encountered several challenges throughout the project life cycle, including the loading dock and parking lot subgrades becoming unsuitable for aggregate base placement. This challenge was effectively addressed through chemical stabilization of the subgrade prior to placement of the aggregate base.

Regular communication, transparent collaboration, and a commitment to meeting the project expectations contributed to a successful partnership with all parties involved.

In conclusion, Greater Cleveland Food Bank’s New Distribution Center serves as a testament to the capabilities and commitment of our team. The achievements, lessons learned, and client satisfaction reinforce our dedication to delivering high-quality projects that create meaningful impact.
