Independence Excavating was contracted by the Asheville Regional Airport Authority to perform the full replacement of the existing asphalt apron with a new concrete apron. The project was completed in multiple phasing to limit the impact to the airport and general aviation operations. Independence Excavating self-performed a significant scope of the project, completing the project over $1 million under the Airport Authority’s budget and a month ahead of schedule.
The major scope included demolition of 14,000 SY of asphalt pavement, 9,000 CY of excavation, 5,000 tons of aggregate base course, 3,000 CY of cement treated base course, and 14,000 SY of 14.5” thick concrete pavement.
